Two fans made fake media credentials and successfully snuck into UFC 205

Tickets prices for Saturday’s UFC 205 in New York exceeded an average of $1,200 on the secondary market, so two fans took drastic measures in hopes of gaining entrance to Madison Square Garden.

In a series of saved Snapchat posts, two friends bragged about making fake media credentials for UFC 205 and chronicled their entire experience as it was unfolding. One of the fans said that his friend took photos of the real media credentials with an ultra-zoom camera, and they were able to successfully replicate those credentials.

It seems like a complex plan — almost unbelievable — but as we continue to watch the videos, it was clear they made it inside the media room and arena.

They entered the arena under a fake Fox Sports affiliation, which as the broadcaster of the prelims, had a ton of media at the event. They were able to blend in and watch Conor McGregor defeat Eddie Alvarez. They even sat through Dana White and McGregor’s press conference.

This wasn’t the first time that fans have successfully snuck into a high-profile sporting event. In 2015, two football fans from Ireland snuck into the Super Bowl by walking close to stadium staffers and simply acting like they belonged. But this was different. The choice to go with the fake media route was undeniably risky (also illegal), and they lucked out that nobody at UFC caught word of the Snapchat posts as it was happening.
