People are going crazy over 'homewrecker' penguin video

National Geographic unveiled the dark side of penguin love last week, and the Internet wasn’t ready for it. 

During a three-minute video, posted by National Geographic on Twitter Friday, a male penguin finds his “wife” with another male penguin, and is thrust into a brutal battle to win her affections back. 

As the narrator explains, the jilted penguin’s "strategy is simple: Batter the home wrecker until he leaves.”

The penguins beat each other with their flippers, which contain solid bone, unlike other birds, and can be used “like baseball bats,” during combat. 

The husband and the homewrecker back away from each other and call for the female penguin to choose the winner. She heartbreakingly chooses the homewrecker and the pair waddle back into their burrow. 

With little left to lose, the husband follows the pair back to what was his home and begins a bloody pecking battle with the homewrecker. 

At the end of the attack, the female penguin chooses her new love interest again, and the original male penguin is left “defeated and humiliated.” 

“She’s got no time for losers,” the narrator explains. 

On Twitter, many were disturbed by the bloody display.
