Ivanka Trump breaks her silence on dad's lewd comments

For the first time Ivanka Trump, who has been a major fixture in her father's efforts to reach out to women voters, publicly addressed the lewd comments Donald Trump made during a 2005 taping of Access Hollywood.

"My father's comments were clearly inappropriate and offensive and I'm glad that he acknowledged this fact with an immediate apology to my family and the American people," the Republican nominee's eldest daughter said in a statement to Fast Company that was published Monday.

"I mean, it's been a year and a half of enormous scrutiny, of my family, every business, every movement, action," Ivanka Trump says in an interview with Fast Company. "I've probably grown a bit tougher in terms of my resilience toward what is thrown our way because, you know, I've read some very negative stuff."

When asked what it is like to read allegations of sexual misconduct or assault by her father, Ivanka Trump said, "The greatest comfort I have is the fact that I know my father. Most of the people who write about him don't. I do," Because she knows him, she is able "to shrug off the things that I read about him that are wrong," she said.

Donald Trump's wife, Melania, has also called Trump's lewd comments "inappropriate" and "not acceptable," but added that she has accepted his apology for them.
