Donald Trump and the Republican National Committee raised more than $18 million less than 24 hours after Monday's night's debate, his campaign announced Tuesday night — a huge haul that tops his campaign's strongest one-day fundraising performance.

Trump finance chairman Steven Mnuchin said the money flowed in "as a result of Donald Trump's huge debate win."

"This is a movement to Make America Great Again," Mnuchin said in a news release. "We are grateful for the support of millions of Americans across the country."

Earlier, the Republican presidential nominee tweeted that his campaign was on its way to a big fundraising success and had topped more than $13 million in contributions by mid-afternoon Tuesday.

Tuesday's total far exceeds the $5 million Trump reported raising online in a single day in late August when he traveled to Mexico to meet with that country's president and later delivered a fiery speech on immigration in Arizona.

Trump, spurned by many of the Republican Party's largest donors, has relied heavily on small, online donations to fuel his campaign.

The end-of-the-month fundraising deadline is Friday, and Trump and his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton have used that deadline, along with their high-profile debate this week at Hofstra University, to solicit last-minute contributions.
