Exclusive: 'Star Trek Beyond' sets course for home release date

Star Trek Beyond is set to explore the home release world.

The third installment of the Star Trek rebooted franchise was one of the summer's biggest box office hits ($333 million worldwide) building up steam before heading to Blu-ray/ DVD  on November 1 and Digital HD four weeks earlier on October 4, 2016.

Director Justin Lin and screenwriter Simon Pegg (who co-wrote the script with Doug Jung and stars as Scotty) created a Star Trek world where the Enterprise crew had been deep into their five-year mission to explore strange new worlds.

Dealing with some of the more mundane parts of space life shows through the screenplay and this exclusive deleted scene from the film, which features Captain James T. Kirk (Chris Pine) having trouble finding someone to hang out with (Scotty has other plans).

Kirk then gets hit with spray by the non-human engineering member Keenser (Deep Roy). Oh, the indignity!

"We meet up with them 966 days into the mission, so there are a lot of existential issues going on for everybody, floating in this void. What does it all mean?" Pegg told USA TODAY about the film.

This mundane stuff is all before Star Trek's newest villain, Krall (Idris Elba), makes his dangerous presence known.

The clip is part of the Blu-ray release, which will also feature a touching tribute to the legendary Leonard Nimoy (who died before filming) and beloved crew member Anton Yelchin  — who played Chekov and who died in a tragic accident after filming.
