Miami Hurricanes football to honor Jose Fernandez with ‘JF 16’ helmet sticker

Miami Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez, who was 24 years old, died in a tragic boating accident last Sunday. Since his passing, many — from his teammates to players on other teams to the city of Miami — have honored him in various ways. Fernandez was taken way too soon, but he touched the lives of a countless number of people.

The Hurricanes announced that they will pay tribute to the late pitcher with a decal that’ll be on their helmets for their Saturday game vs. Georgia Tech. It represents Fernandez’s initials and his number.

Along with the photo of the decal, Miami wrote the message, “This past Sunday, we lost a big piece of our community. Tomorrow, we honor his memory.”
