Bruce Arians' fix for Chandler Catanzaro: 'Kick it through the two poles'

Arizona Cardinals kicker Chandler Catanzaro (7) looks on after missing a field goal in overtime against the Seattle Seahawks at University of Phoenix Stadium.

TEMPE, Ariz. – Arizona Cardinals coach Bruce Arians says kicker Chandler Catanzaro has his full support in the aftermath of Sunday night’s overtime miss against the Seattle Seahawks.

And Arians offered a novel idea when asked Monday if the Cardinals’ special teams issues – including another field goal attempt and a punt that were both blocked in what ended up a 6-all tie – are correctable.

“The kicker needs to kick it through the two poles,” Arians told reporters. “Then we’d be 5-2.”

Instead, the Cardinals are 3-3-1 after Catanzaro’s 24-yard boot caromed off the left upright late in Sunday’s slugfest. Catanzaro also missed a 47-yard field goal attempt wide left in the final minute of the season opener against the New England Patriots, who held on to win 23-21.

On the plus side, things could’ve been worse Sunday. Minutes after Catanzaro’s gaffe, Seahawks kicker Stephen Hauschka missed a 28-yard attempt that would’ve given them the win.
