Johnny Manziel enrolled as student at Texas A&M

USA TODAY Sports

Johnny Manziel is apparently back as a student at Texas A&M.

Former Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel entered the league with perhaps out-sized fame on and off the field.

Multiple news outlets reported the free agent NFL quarterback had enrolled in classes. Manziel's name appears in the student directory when searched on the school's website.

He is listed as a recreation, parks and tourism sciences major having completed more than 90 hours.

Manziel was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the first round of the 2014 NFL draft and was with the team for two seasons before being released in March. He played for the Aggies in 2012 and 2013 and won the Heisman Trophy as a freshman.

It's is unlikely Manziel will play in the NFL this season. He has been suspended four games for a violation of the NFL's substance abuse policy. That punishment is unrelated to his current unresolved assault case in Dallas, stemming from an altercation with his former girlfriend earlier this year. That case remains under investigation by the NFL, league spokesman Brian McCarty told USA TODAY Sports.

Should Manziel sign with a team, he would be subject to additional punishment under the personal conduct policy, pending the outcome of the league's investigation.
