Thursday's forecast: Wet central, eastern U.S.

A cold front will slide through the central and eastern U.S. Thursday, triggering a few showers and storms.

West: Most of the West Coast will be dry and hot Thursday, exacerbating the fire danger there. Afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms are again likely over parts of the central and southern Rockies, the Southwest and eastern Great Basin Thursday.

East: Summertime heat and humidity will spread up the East Coast on Thursday. Showers and thunderstorms are forecast to rattle the Ohio Valley and Southeast. Some of the thunderstorms in Ohio could reach severe levels.

Central U.S. Showers and storms could pelt the central Plains Thursday, with the heaviest rain likely in Kansas and Missouri. The northern Rockies, northern Plains will be cool, with highs only in the 60s and 70s.
