The fastest man in the world has never run a mile

Usain Bolt is a six-time Olympic gold medalist. He’s the fastest man in the world, and has dominated the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes.

But in a somewhat stunning revelation, we learned that Bolt has never run the mile.

The New Yorker posted a story Monday that examined if Bolt could run a mile in under five minutes. His agent, Ricky Simms, confirmed that Bolt has never run a mile. Like, ever.

He simply said:

“Usain has never run a mile.”

Though there is not much of a reason for a world-class sprinter to run a mile, it’s pretty astounding that Bolt hasn’t ever attempted to run one just out of curiosity. He spends so much time on tracks, that you’d think he’d run a mile once for fun, but guess not.

Now, could Bolt run a mile in under five minutes? It might not be as easy as it sounds.

LetsRun.com co-founder Robert Johnson said via The New Yorker:

“To expect Bolt to be good at the mile simply because he is the world’s greatest sprinter would be like expecting a great three-hundred-and-twenty-pound NFL offensive lineman to be good at playing running back simply because he’s a great football player. It’s ludicrous.”

That being said, I think Bolt breaks five minutes easily.
