Drew Peterson, the former Chicago-suburbs police officer given a 38-year prison term in 2013 for the murder of his third wife, faces yet more time in the slammer – this time for plotting a hit on the prosecutor who put him behind bars.

Former Bolingbrook, Ill., police officer Drew Peterson arrives for court.

The  62-year-old Peterson is incarcerated at the Menard Correctional Center in southern Illinois, just a few minutes away from the courthouse where a jury in May found him guilty of trying to arrange the killing of State's Attorney James Glasgow. He will be sentenced Friday, according to the Chicago Tribune.

It's unclear whether Peterson will elect to speak prior to being sentenced, the paper reported. At his 2013 sentencing, he delivered a rambling, tear-filled, 40-minute rant.

Randolph County State's Attorney Jeremy Walker told the Tribune he expects that Glasgow will deliver a victim impact statement to the court.

Peterson faces 20 to 60 years for the plot, to be served after his murder sentence. Even if he receives the minimum time, it will mean Peterson spends the rest of his life behind bars. He is due to be paroled in 2047 at age 93 for the first conviction.

At the May trial, according to the Tribune, the state's star witness, Antonio "Beast" Smith, testified that he became friends with Peterson in 2013 while they were both inmates at Menard. He said Peterson asked if he could help find a hit man to kill Glasgow.

Smith, who was transferred to another prison, then tipped off officials to the plan and was sent back to Menard and agreed to wear a wire for the FBI to record his conversations with Peterson.

Peterson’s fourth wife, Stacy Peterson, has been missing since the fall of 2007. It was during the investigation into her disappearance that investigators determined that he was responsible for the death of his third wife, Kathleen Savio.
