Just Cool Cars: Roadster is 'rolling art'

USA TODAY

BEVERLY HILLS -- For nearly four decades, Alfred DiMora has been turning out head-turning, high-end cars.

Al Dimora poses with his $1.2 million Vicci 6.2 at the Rodeo Drive Concours d'Elegance.

And now he has another, a 1930s-style roadster that he calls "rolling art" -- the DiMora Vicci 6.2. DiMora, who is based in Palm Springs, Calif., says it took workers 700 hours to painstakingly apply the hood art. And yes, that's real gold leaf.

It's also about exclusivity. This car is a limited edition with only 25 to be made with the same artist, DiMora says.

The car itself is as unique as its artwork. It has a carbon-fiber body and an aluminum engine that dramatically cut weight to 2,820 pounds, he says. The big 6.2-liter engine puts out 430 horsepower and a supercharged version is available with 556 horsepower.

"She's fast as lightning," DiMora told us as crowds gathered around the car at the Rodeo Drive Concours d'Elegance here recently.

There's also a lot of interesting detail. The gas cap, for instance, flips up from the center of the trunk that is shaped in a way that contours with the spare tire.

Those interested in buying one better start saving their pennies: It's priced at $1.2 million.
