Americans are furiously Googling 'voter registration'

The Democratic convention is doing something right (or wrong, depending on how people plan to vote): The phrase “voter registration” hit its highest level on Google since the primaries on Wednesday night.

On the third night, searches for “voter registration” spiked 190%. There was a big push to get people involved in politics on Wednesday. At one point after a mention of Donald Trump, the crowd booed, and President Obama responded, “Don’t boo, vote.”

That was the top Democratic convention moment on Twitter. Hillary Clinton’s surprise appearance onstage Wednesday night was the second-most-tweeted moment. Obama quoting President Theodore Roosevelt and calling Clinton “that woman in the arena” came in third.

But Trump did manage to control some conversation — the most retweeted tweet of the night was from him about police shooting deaths.

The president also owned Twitter: He was the most searched speaker on Wednesday. Vice President Biden came in second. Clinton’s running-mate, Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine, was third, and former New York mayor Michael Bloomberg came in fourth. Google search results were the exact same with former Arizona congresswoman Gabby Giffords coming in fifth.

Meanwhile on Facebook, 12 million people created 44.4 million interactions over the last 24 hours related to the Democratic convention.

The biggest talker? That hug between Obama and Clinton after she made a surprise appearance.

The hug also became the most liked photograph on Instagram of any candidate during the presidential cycle. The honor was previously held by Donald Trump eating a Big Mac when he became the presumptive Republican nominee.
