Report: Arrival of Apple Car pushed back a year

It appears Apple's long-rumored electric car project will stay in the garage an extra year.

Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco.

According to The Information, the tech giant will push back plans to deliver an electric vehicle to 2021, from an original target of 2020.

Although Apple has yet to confirm its automotive endeavor, rumors have swirled in recent years about the tech giant's ambitions. Tesla CEO Elon Musk once referred to the project as an "open secret."

The delayed rollout could be connected to reports earlier this year Steve Zadesky, who spearheaded the Apple car dubbed Project Titan, left the company for personal reasons. Meanwhile, a separate report in January claimed Apple design chief Jony Ive was not pleased with progress made on the electric vehicle.

If Apple follows through with plans to ship an electric car, it will face stiff competition. Tesla is considered among the leaders in the market, with Musk already outlining a roadmap for the company's future to include trucks and even commercial vehicles. Meanwhile, other companies including Faraday Future and Ford press forward with plans to release their own electric vehicles.
