Conservatives decry Bradley Cooper's DNC appearance

Jayme Deerwester, USA TODAY

Two years after Bradley Cooper played Navy SEAL shooter Chris Kyle in American Sniper, conservatives are angry at him for appearing at the Democratic National Convention in his hometown of Philadelphia.

Cooper, seen here with girlfriend Irina Shayk at Wimbledon on July 10, is being criticized for taking part in the Democratic National Convention.

News cameras showed him in the audience, where he took in the show with his girlfriend, Russian model Irina Shayk.

Released on Christmas Day 2014, Sniper made $350.1 million — thanks in large part to conservative moviegoers — and earned Cooper a best-actor Oscar nomination.

In reality, Cooper has supported the Brady Campaign to End Gun Violence and made small donations to Hillary Clinton's 2000 Senate campaign and her 2008 primary bid.

This was apparently news to some of his conservative fans, who vowed never to see another of his films.

Others hoped that Cooper's work on Sniper (on which he also served as a producer) had moved him more towards their way of thinking.

Twitter users from the other side of the aisle mockingly reminded them that Cooper is an actor and that Kyle was a character.

In 2014, Cooper told The Navy Times, "This character happens to be a real man. This is a movie that's going to live with [their] children, his parents, forever. I felt a massive responsibility to do right by them."
