7 summer trends to wear before the leaves fall
It's probably still boiling where you live, but with fall fashion hitting stores it’s officially last call for summer’s hottest trends. What should you wear before the tides turn to suede and sweaters? USA TODAY has you covered with seven different options.
1. A stylish one-piece bathing suit
There’s almost no chance you missed Taylor Swift and her famous supermodel girlfriends taking over social media at her annual July 4th bash in Rhode Island. The standout style choice at the #Taymerica party was this summer’s most-shopped swimwear trend: the suddenly cool one-piece bathing suit. Go poolside in this Deep V One-piece suit from Abercrombie and Fitch, on sale for $24 (at abercrombie.com).
2. Major ruffles
Romantic ruffles have been everywhere this summer, from Ciara’s red carpet gown to casual ruffled tops paired with cutoffs. Steal the look from the newlywed with re:named's over the shoulder top, $44 (in blush at shopbop.com).
3. All the stripes
When Margot Robbie sat down with Alexander Skarsgard for their USA TODAY portrait, we fell hard for her stripes-on-stripes ensemble. Get the gauzy look with NastyGal’s Stripe Her Down backless jumpsuit, $78 (at nastygal.com).
4. Bold hair hues
Miss Coachella this year? Get rained out of Governors Ball? Never fear, playful hair color will be here for the rest of the year, thanks to stars like Lily Collins. Sample the look (minus the bleach) with Splat hair chalk ($5.99 each at ulta.com).
5. Stylish, easy weekends
This might be the easiest cool-girl look to copy ever. On any given steamy Sunday, simply pair a chambray button-down with white kicks and hit the town, a la Gigi Hadid. We’re mimicking the style with Madewell’s chambray ex-boyfriend shirt in buckley wash, $72 (at madewell.com). Grab these Converse Chuck Taylor All Star Sneakers, $55 (at shopbop.com) and you’re good to go.
6. Major shade
Even sun-worshippers know that protecting your skin is non-negotiable. Hit the beach with an oversized sun hat, like this mesh hall floppy hat, $28 (at nastygal.com). And throw some SPF on under the brim while you’re at it! (You know J.Lo would approve.)
7. Serious sunnies
Hold up. In the summer of Beyonce, let’s take a moment and bask in her shade appeal. Because not only do these fierce Madness Perverse sunglasses (in gun powder) majorly up anyone’s style game, they’re also affordable, at just $65 (at perversesunglasses.com).
