Kevin Durant closes his OKC restaurant 21 days after ditching for the Warriors

It was inevitable, one might imagine, but it doesn’t stop the Oklahoma pain: Kevin Durant’s Oklahoma City restaurant has shut its doors, reports The Oklahoman. Durant, who announced his plans to join the Warriors on July 4, had a 25% stake in the aptly named restaurant KD’s, in partnership with the Hal Smith Restaurant Group. It’s unclear whether he still has any ownership, but the group plans to reopen the restaurant with a new concept in August. Hal Smith, the founder and CEO of his eponymous restaurant group, said this:

“Our restaurant has become a tradition for many in our community for an evening out or to celebrate a special occasion, which is an honor we don’t take lightly. We know our guests, we listen to them, and we think they’ll be really pleased with this transition. We plan to maintain the majority of our current menu, and there’s no doubt our famous fried chicken and other favorites will be back.”

Two days after Durant left OKC, the Yelp page of KD’s was overrun by Thunder and Warriors fans duking it out in the comments. But while some OKC fans weren’t very gracious, Smith was.

“It has been an honor — and a lot of fun — to partner with Kevin Durant at Kd’s these last few years,” Smith said in a statement. “We wish him the very best as he takes a new direction in his career.”
