Charles Barkley says Dr. J, Moses Malone, Maurice Cheeks ate McDonald’s on stationary bikes too

Jayson Williams told a hilarious story about Charles Barkley on the VICE “Cookies” podcast this week. He said that on his second day of practice with the 76ers, Barkley showed up late with a bag of McDonald’s, and then Barkley proceeded to eat the McDonald’s breakfast, while workout out on a stationary bike and yelling at them.

“I’ll never forget this story,” Williams said. Neither would I.

Barkley was asked about it on SportsCenter — is this true? And Barkley confirmed: Williams was telling the truth.

Chuck says:

“That’s the truth. When I got to Philadelphia, Dr. J, Moses Malone, Maurice Cheeks—they never practiced. They’d sit on the side, on the stationary bike, eating McDonald’s. So once I had been in the league X amount of years, I adopted that philosophy. I had played 48 minutes the night before, I wasn’t going to get up the next morning and go to practice.”

The story gets even better when Barkley tells it. Because now we know this wasn’t a one-time deal. Barkley saw vets doing this, and he was simply copying them once he felt that he had earned the right to do so.

Plus, he added what his specific order is.

“And I always go with the Egg McMuffin and the hot cakes with sausage too. That’s the best breakfast you can get.”
