Cowboys' Ezekiel Elliott denies domestic assault accusation

Dallas Cowboys rookie running back Ezekiel Elliott was accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend, according to a police report filed Friday morning in Ohio. He was not arrested.

NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy confirmed that the league would review the accusation under its personal conduct policy.

Tiffany Thompson, who claims Elliott is her former live-in boyfriend, told police he assaulted her while the two were in a parked car in the parking lot of a Columbus, Ohio, business around 2:30 a.m. Friday.

“[Thompson] stated that she had pain in her right wrist and a red mark, but declined medical treatment,” the report reads. Police took photos of her injuries at the scene.

The police report cites four witnesses, who each said they didn’t see an assault take place. One of the witnesses was in the passenger seat of the car at the time of the alleged assault. The three others were in the parking lot.

Elliott wasn't arrested due to conflicting accounts of the alleged incident, and the inability to prove Thompson's claim that she and Elliott lived together -- a claim Elliott denied.

Elliott's father, Stacy Elliott, issued a statement Friday saying he believed his son was innocent.

"The reported allegations and Internet postings regarding our son are completely false. Ezekiel has done nothing wrong," the statement read. "The police have investigated this matter and eyewitnesses have verified the lack of any wrongdoing. The actual evidence in this matter clearly indicates what the real motivation was behind the police being called. We are confident that when the truth comes to light it will reveal the falsity of these claims. Ezekiel has been fully cooperative with the police and will continue to do so — along with cooperating with the NFL — moving forward.”

According to a second police report filed Friday morning, “[Elliott] stated he never touched [Thompson] in a harmful manner and that the bruises ... were from a bar fight she was in."

Thompson later Friday morning posted photos to her private Instagram account showing bruises and claiming she was the victim of domestic abuse.

One post was accompanied by a lengthy caption, which referenced multiple instances of abuse without directly accusing Elliott. A second post was captioned only with Elliott’s Instagram handle, according to screengrabs of her posts obtained by Deadspin.

The caption on her first post: "Just for every women out there getting abused it’s time to put a stop to it. This has been happening to me for months and it finally got out of control to where I was picked up and thrown across the room by my arms. Thrown into the walls. Being choked to where I have to grasp for breath. Bruised everywhere, mentally and physically abused. It’s not okay. So I want each and everyone of you girls to step away now from domestic violence. You’re worth so much more. I got told it was called “tough love” I’m sorry if you love someone you don’t touch your loved ones."

WFAA Sports reached out to the Cowboys, who said they "don't have a statement at this time." Attempts to reach Elliott have not been successful.

The Cowboys selected Elliott No. 4 overall in the NFL Draft in April. Friday is Elliott’s 21st birthday.
