Tiger Woods says he'll miss U.S. Open, Quicken Loans National

There will be no U.S. Open for Tiger Woods.

No Quicken Loans National, either.

Tiger Woods acknowledges the crowd after a par on the first hole during the final round of the Wyndham Championship golf tournament at Sedgefield Country Club.

And there is still no timetable for his return.

The 14-time major champion, who hasn’t played a competitive round on the PGA Tour since finishing in a tie for 10th in the Wyndham Championship last August, announced Tuesday he won’t play in the coming weeks. He continues to rehab a surgically repaired back.

“While I continue to work hard on getting healthy, I am not physically ready to play in this year's U.S. Open and the Quicken Loans National,” Woods wrote on his blog. “I am making progress, but I'm not yet ready for tournament competition.”

The U.S. Open begins June 16 at Oakmont Country Club near Pittsburgh. In 2007, the last time Oakmont hosted the national championship, Woods finished in a tie for second, one shot behind Angel Cabrera.

This will mark the third time since 2011 that Woods, who has won the U.S. Open three times, will miss the championship due to injury.

The following week, Woods will host the Quicken Loans National at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Md. The tournament benefits Woods’ foundation.
