10 tips for Take Your Dog to Work Day

Take Your Dog to Work Day is Friday, June 24.

You don’t have to face those imploring puppy eyes when you leave work on Friday. June 24 is Take Your Dog to Work Day and, if your office allows it, you can keep your best friend with you all day.

If this is your pooch's first time at work, he’ll need to learn the house rules.

Here are 10 tips for taking Fido to work.

1. Greet others appropriately

Make sure your dog shakes hands with your co-workers. A smile and wagging tail go a long way, too. Some people aren’t fans of wet kissers and butt-sniffers.

2. If your dog sheds, bring a roller

No one needs a sweater made out of your dog's fur.

3. Know where to walk your pooch

Bring her outside when she starts to sniff and circle. You may not like your boss, and your dog may sense it, but that doesn’t mean you can leave a smelly surprise in his office.

4. Choose toys wisely

Bring a tennis ball or quiet stuffed toy, not your dog’s favorite squeaky hedgehog. Believe it or not, everyone around you can hear that high-pitched noise.

5. Dress to impress

If your Pomeranian is coming to work with you, make sure she arrives groomed and fluffed. Muddy paws and dirty fur aren't going to win first prize at the dog show.

6. Use an indoor voice

If his bark really is worse than his bite, don’t let us hear it.

7. Bring water and food

Pack her favorite snacks plus food and water bowls to avoid explaining why she stole a colleague’s sandwich or smells like toilet water.

8. Don’t leave your work space unattended

Your dog might decide to redecorate. Good luck explaining the chewed-up paperwork and the heavy breathing when he tries to answer the phone.

9. Beware the lap dog

As much as you cuddle with your dog at home, work isn’t the place to do that. Your Labrador's wagging tail might knock over coffee, or his drool can create a gooey mess.

10. Find a place to nap

Your Great Dane isn't as small as she thinks, so prevent her from sleeping in the hallways. Under the desk or next to your chair is a perfect place for your pup to rest.
