Michelle Obama's best White House Correspondents' Dinner looks
It's that time of year again, when Hollywood stars and journalists get to rub shoulders with the folks on Capitol Hill, and everyone pulls out the Nerd Prom jokes.
At this year's White House Correspondents' Dinner, there are plenty of A-list celebs on the invite list. But there's one person who always manages to steal the show, at least in the way of flawless fashion:first lady Michelle Obama. She's no stranger to drawing attention for her glamorous wardrobe choices, and during this year's festivities, we expect nothing less than jaw-dropping styles.
In honor of her last WHCD as first lady, here's a look at her best dresses, and one reason why we'd vote for her as permanent Nerd Prom Queen.
2009: Michael Kors
In 2009, Mrs. Obama gave us major inspiration for our professional attire game when she showed up wearing a fuchsia, shift dress by Michael Kors. It was simple yet elegant. The bold color made quite the statement—and so did her eye-catching, St. Erasmus necklace.
2010: Prabal Gurung
The following year, the first lady surprised in Nepalese designer, Prabal Gurung. Sporting the designer's favorite color, Mrs. Obama wowed guests wearing a smoky red, sleeveless dress. Gurung told The Huffington Post, "I thought it would perfectly enhance the type of woman she is. It’s modern, not vulgar, very chic, very beautiful.”
2011: Halston
When the first lady stepped out in a show-stopping, sleeveless Halston dress, we had to take a minute to catch our breath. The chocolate color, silk material and empire waist was a perfect combination—making this a super sexy and sophisticated outfit.
2012: Naeem Khan
Jazzing it up in 2012, Mrs. Obama wore a multi-colored strapless ballgown by Naeem Khan. She accessorized the look with a pair of studded, hoop earrings and went for a wispy, retro hairstyle.
2013: Monique Lhuillier
Once 2013 rolled around, FLOTUS turned heads in her glittering, cap-sleeve gown by Monique Lhuillier. Spicing up her hairdo, she also rocked the side-sweep bangs. The sheer lace top was an edgier look than year's past, and she looked even more fierce with her smoky eye-makeup.
2014: Marchesa
Marchesa's grey, off-the-shoulder creation was a perfect fit. In 2014, fashionistas applauded Mrs. Obama for her classic, tulle gown. Once again, Mrs. Obama brought her A-game—gracing her guests with her fashion-forward appearance.
2015: Zac Posen
Last year, all eyes were on the first lady when she dazzled in a custom, beaded gown by Zac Posen. Her shimmery, grey dress was coupled with a belt detail at the waist. Showing off her toned arms, Mrs. Obama proved she can do red carpet glamour better than any other celebrity.
