Jordan Spieth threw a tantrum after hitting his ball into a bunker at the U.S. Open

OAKMONT, Pa. — The nature of the U.S. Open course setup means that pros will lose their composure at some point, and it didn’t take long for Jordan Spieth to continue that tradition.

After rain rolled-in early Thursday morning and forced the suspension of play at 10:04 a.m. (ET), players were eventually were sent back out onto the course to try to play a few holes before a second batch of bad weather rolled through.

And it turns out that was just enough time to annoy Spietb.

The 17th hole is a short par-4. It should be a birdie hole, but Spieth spun his wedge back off the front of the green into a green side bunker. He wasn’t very happy about it.

It was a combination of things that got Jordan Spieth so upset: His group was reportedly warned for slow play, it was a good shot that got unlucky, he was even par for the day, he was probably irritated (understandably) that play resumed for such a short period of time, and just as Spieth was about to hit his bunker shot, play was delayed for a second time.

Fox Sports’ Paul Azinger defended Spieth, saying his reaction is part of what makes him who he is.
