The Jermaine Jones-New England Revolution breakup is getting ugly

USMNT player Jermaine Jones is currently out of a contract with the New England Revolution, though many of us who follow MLS assumed the team would try and re-sign the 34-year-old Designated Player to a new contract this offseason.

That was before the last game of the season, however, when Jones was ejected for shoving an official, which earned him a six game suspension. This offseason the Revolution signed new Designated Player Xavier Kouassi, a defensive central midfielder — Jones’ position — and most assumed that Jones was done. Kouassi then got injured, though, perhaps opening up the window for Jones to return … but the Revolution went out and traded for Gershon Koffie, another defensive central midfielder.

The Revolution have made it very clear they’re moving on from Jones. On Friday, with an Instagram post, Jones showed that he is not done with the Revolution. Or at least not done pointing out how stupid they are for letting him go.

My question is: What does Jones hope to accomplish here? The Revolution have made it clear they’re moving on. They signed not one but two players to replace him. His age, his assumed salary demands, and his suspension will make it hard for him to hook up with a new team. Why make it harder on himself by protracting out this feud?

Say thanks to the Revolution and move on. This doesn’t have to be difficult.
