Less than two weeks after being involved in a major traffic accident, Cam Newton returned to lead the Carolina Panthers over the Browns at home Sunday. Newton led a game-winning drive in the fourth quarter that ended with a touchdown pass to Jonathan Stewart to put the Panthers up 17-13. The Browns were forced to bring in Brian Hoyer late in the second quarter after rookie Johnny Manziel suffered a hamstring injury while scrambling.

After Manziel collided with Panthers safety Colin Jones and was being treated by medical staff, many fans inside Bank of America cheered. Newton called those fans “classless” after the game, and challenged them to be better.

Via the AP:

“I was saddened to see the crowd’s response to when he got hurt. It was classless. Anytime when a person gets hurt you don’t celebrate. I have had that done in my career and it just takes the integrity out of the game. For the crowd to respond in that sort of way — we’re better than that.”
