Joey Jones set quite the standard of toughness for his players in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s Raycom Media Camellia Bowl.

Trailing Bowling Green 27-21, the Jaguars tried to mount a fourth-quarter comeback. But Jones got a little too close to the action and took an inadvertent cleat to the face from one of his own players.

Jones began bleeding from the bridge of his nose, but remained in place as trainers attended to him.

Unfortunately for Jones, the game’s end was almost as painful. South Alabama scored a go-ahead touchdown with 1:20 remaining, but Bowling Green then connected on a 78-yard touchdown strike to seize a 33-28 win.

Here’s to hoping time heals both wounds of the heart and the nose.
