Punchlines: Christmas rush and a Colbert send-off

USA TODAY
Jimmy Kimmel

In the week before Christmas most families have plenty to think about: decorating the Christmas tree, making travel plans and, according to one comic, for the man of the house, last-minute shopping on Christmas Eve at the local 7-Eleven.

Another comic tells us about how his mother likes to get dolled up for the UPS guy at this time of year, and a third sports a new suit and reminds us of the oddities we encounter when visiting family members.

Take a look at our favorite Christmas jokes from last night's late-night roundup, then vote for yours in the quick poll to the right. Watching from your smartphone or tablet? Then visit opinion.usatoday.com to cast your ballot.

Punchlines bonus: Colbert Nation signs off

Stephen Colbert's Colbert Report was big. On it, he ran for president, started a PAC, jogged on a treadmill in space and fenced in the halls of Congress. So of course, his departure had to be big, too. By the end of the series finale, Colbert had defeated death (in his final act as a mere mortal, he killed the Grim Reaper), and taken a moment to reassess his need for a bucket list. (If you're immortal, what's the point?) What happened next? You'll have to watch this Punchlines bonus to find out, but it's a send off that involves more than a few a-list celebrities (including Katie Couric, Big Bird, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and former president Bill Clinton) along with troops in Afghanistan and an astronaut in outer space.

Colbert Nation's Stephen Colbert added spice to our daily roundup by succinctly capturing everything that's wrong with the right (or right with it, depending on your perspective). Let's see if the real Stephen Colbert, as host of The Late Show, will add to our themed roundups in equal measure.
