JetBlue suffered a "systemwide IT outage" early Monday morning that created long lines at many of the carrier's airports. The problem was resolved by 6:15 a.m. ET, but residual back-ups were expected to last into the afternoon.

The outage prevented customers from getting boarding passes or checking bags. Some passengers said via Twitter that JetBlue's check-in agents were manually filling out boarding passes.

Customers took to Twitter with reports and photos of long lines at several of JetBlue's busier airports.

JetBlue acknowledged the problem in a statement to Today in the Sky, saying:

"JetBlue experienced an IT network issue early this morning that caused delays in the system. The issue was resolved at approximately 6:15 a.m. ET, and systems are back online. We are working to resume normal operations now, but customers may experience some delays throughout the day. We apologize for any inconvenience and encourage customers to check their flight status at jetblue.com."

JetBlue also responded individually to customers tweeting about the problems.

"The IT outage has been resolved and we're working to restore normal operations as quickly as we can. Thanks for your patience," JetBlue said to one person.

Several customers indicated JetBlue was doing reasonably well, given the circumstances.

A Twitter user under the name Charlie Field tweeted a photo of long airport line, but added that JetBlue's "employees (are) keeping people calm and informed."
