Canucks' Alex Burrows leaves practice site in ambulance

Vancouver Canucks forward Alex Burrows will miss Tuesday's game against the Calgary Flames after leaving Scotiabank Saddledome in an ambulance.

Burrows said, "Help," as he left practice and a stretcher later was sent into the dressing room, Sportsnet columnist Mark Spector tweeted.

Spector added that Burrows was alert when he left the arena in an ambulance.

The Canucks later put out a statement: "Burrows sustained an upper body injury and was taken to hospital after practice this morning for precautionary reasons. Will not play tonight."

TVA Sports' Renaud Lavoie later tweeted:

Right before game time, the Canucks provided an update.

Then after the game, coach Willie Desjardins told reporters that Burrows had been released from the hospital and was being kept overnight in Calgary "just to make sure everything's good."

Burrows had been cleared for Game 4 after the league ruled that his late-game instigator penalty Sunday in a fight against Calgary's Kris Russell wouldn't result in an automatic one-game suspension.

The league determined that Burrows had dropped the gloves in response to Russell confronting him about a hit on Flames rookie Johnny Gaudreau.

The Canucks announced earlier Tuesday that they had recalled forward Sven Baertschi, a former Flame, from the American Hockey League.

The Flames lead the series against the Canucks 2-1.
