UPDATE: The NFL announced on Sunday evening that Katy Perry will be the performer for the Super Bowl halftime show. Just call me Nostradamus.

A week after taking College GameDay by storm, Katy Perry is making football headlines yet again.

There are unconfirmed reports claiming Perry is set to star in the Super Bowl XLIX halftime show next February, beating out Coldplay and Rihanna for the gig. While it remains to be seen whether the pop star will take over sports’ biggest stage, there is no question that Katy Perry is perfect for the Super Bowl.

She isn’t a geriatric Rock ‘n’ Roller.

I love The Who, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, the Rolling Stones, Sir Paul McCartney, Prince, Aerosmith, and U2. The average age of the lead singers of those bands is 65.

Katy Perry is 29.

Rock ‘n’ Roll will never die, but it will age, wrinkle, and get really achey joints when there’s a thunderstorm coming. A bonafide pop star like Katy Perry will put on a spectacle, and while “I Kissed A Girl” probably isn’t going to stand up to “Baba O’Riley” in 30 years, it’s going to be way more fun to watch in four months.

She can tailor her setlist to match the teams involved.

Regardless of who is playing, Katy Perry has a song for that team. “Roar” is perfect for the Bengals, Bears, Lions (lol), Panthers, and Jaguars (LOL LOL LOL). “Dark Horse” covers the Chargers. “Circle the Drain” speaks to Redskins, Buccaneers, Raiders, Dolphins, Vikings, Jets, and Titans fans. “Hot n Cold” for the Patriots and 49ers. “Lost” for the Browns. “The One That Got Away” is basically a ballad written specifically to Peyton Manning at this point, and “California Girls” seems like a song Tony Romo loves.

She knows Snoop Dogg.

You know what is better with Snoop Dogg? Everything.

This could be Riff Raff’s big break.

Don’t know who Riff Raff is? Riff Raff is the gentleman to Katy Perry’s right.

He’s a fellow from Houston and the genius behind “Tip Toe Wing In My Jawdinzz” and “Versace Python.” He also was rumored to be James Franco’s inspiration for his character in Spring Breakers. Riff Raff deserves 15 more minutes courtesy of the NFL. Katy Perry can give it to him.
