The Broncos are watching shark-attack videos to prepare for the Dolphins

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. – It hasn’t escaped Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio that his defense has recovered just two fumbles in 10 games. So as his players gathered for their weekly “Turnover Thursday” meeting, Del Rio and his staff hit play on a video that he hoped would inspire his defense to swarm.

“We sharks coming out of the ocean attacking the seals,” Del Rio said. “That’s how we want to attack the ball.”

The shark video was just the latest installment of violent nature videos the Broncos defense has watched this season.

“It’s all aggressive animals going after animals that are not so happy about being pursued,” Del Rio said. “It’s good stuff.”

And often, it’s worked. The Broncos have the No. 5-ranked defense this season, and currently are ranked second against the run. The Broncos hadn’t allowed a 100-yard rusher until last week, when Rams rookie Tre Mason rushed for 113 yards on 29 carries.

Perhaps the shark video, then, will inspire the Denver defense before Sunday’s game against the Dolphins. (Though, here’s a question: Were there no sharks-attacking-dolphins videos available on the internet?)

If nothing else, it left an impression on Del Rio.

“I’m still thinking about whether I’m going to get back in the ocean,” Del Rio said.
