Protesters converged on at least two chain stores in the St. Louis area Thursday night, calling for a boycott to draw attention to racial injustice after the shooting death of Ferguson, Mo., teen Michael Brown.

At 10:20 p.m. local time, a group of about 75 people began a spirited chant inside the Brentwood, Mo., Target. The group walked out the front doors, then continued demonstrating for about 15 minutes in front of the store, chanting "no peace" and "shut it down" and "hands up." The store remained open during and after the protest. There were no arrests or violence.

Protesters also demonstrated at a Walmart.

After three nights of protests that led to more than 140 arrests in Ferguson and St. Louis and at least a dozen burned buildings, Ferguson, Mo., was calmer during the day Thursday as people stayed home for Thanksgiving and volunteers wielding paint brushes tried to brighten up the scarred city.

A call to boycott Black Friday shopping had spread earlier in the week. Much of the conversation coalesced around the Twitter handles #BoycottBlackFriday and #BlackoutBlackFriday. The organizers seek to draw attention to racial issues after a grand jury decided not to press charges against Darren Wilson, the white police officer who fatally shot Michael Brown, who was unarmed.
