A power outage disrupted some flights at Baltimore/Washington International Airport (BWI) on Monday morning before the problem could be resolved.

BWI officials said the problem had been fixed as of 11:54 a.m. ET and that "passenger and (TSA) screening operations expected to resume shortly." The outage appeared to happen sometime around 10 a.m. ET.

Still, shortly after noon ET, BWI advised fliers via Twitter that some flights were still experiencing delays and that passengers should check with their airlines "to determine if your flight is affected."

The airport serves not only Baltimore, but is one of the three big airports serving the greater Washington, D.C., metro area. BWI is one of the busiest bases for Southwest Airlines.

Flight-tracking service FlightAware counted 29 cancellations and 28 delayed flights at BWI as of 1 p.m. ET. Combined, the cancellations and delays account for about close to 10% of the airport's total Monday schedule, according to FlightAware.

Nationwide, Southwest had canceled 32 flights as of noon ET. That was more than at any other U.S. carrier, though it was not immediately clear how many of those cancellations were tied to the outage at BWI.

"A power outage impacted the Baltimore/Washington International airport and Southwest's and AirTran's operations early this morning," Southwest said in a statement e-mailed to Today in the Sky. "The power has since been restored and our flight operations are resuming. We are working hard to reaccommodate those Customers who flights have been delayed or cancelled to get them to their final destinations Safely. We appreciate our Customer's patience as we work to get them to where they need to go."
