PBS, Friday, 9 ET/PT

If you remember Homer's acapella band, the B-Sharps, you'll want to see his new cover band on 'The Simpsons.'

The PBS Fall Arts Festival continues with this Great Performances encore presentation of one of the world's most popular (and, in opposing quarters, reviled and mocked) musicals. Elaine Paige, John Mills and Ken Page star in this production, taped in London in 1997. Those who love the show should be in cat heaven. Those for whom the show brings to mind the line from John Guare's Six Degrees of Separation that "Aeschylus did not invent the theatre to have it end up a bunch of chorus kids in cat suits" should tune their TVs elsewhere.

American Music Awards
ABC, Sunday, 8 ET/PT

The music continues on ABC Sunday with this fan-vote award show — and as with most such shows, the music is all that matters. So ignore the prizes and focus on the performers, scheduled to include Garth Brooks, Taylor Swift, Mary J. Blige and Pitbull, who also hosts. If it helps get you past any awards-show phobia, think of it as The Ed Sullivan Show for another century.

The Simpsons
Fox, Sunday, 8 ET/PT

A tuneful weekend continues on TV's greatest animated comedy, as Homer forms a cover band with some of his Springfield friends. All is well, until one of the friends becomes a bigger star than Homer. Will Forte and Sammy Hagar lend their voices.
