Rodney Stuckey to sign contract with Indiana Pacers

Rodney Stuckey now will join Pacers center Roy Hibbert after rivaling him with the Pistons.

Rodney Stuckey has agreed to sign with the Indiana Pacers on a one-year deal for the veteran's minimum salary, according to a person with knowledge of the situation. The person spoke to USA TODAY Sports on the condition of anonymity because the deal had not yet been signed.

The Pacers' already-pressing need for more scorers increased Wednesday with the loss of Lance Stephenson, who agreed to sign with the Charlotte Hornets on a three-year, $27 million deal. Indiana struggled to score even with Stephenson in the fold last season, ranking 21st in points scored per 100 possession (101.5). Their former backup shooting guard, Evan Turner, is currently a free agent as well.

Stuckey, who played his first seven seasons in Detroit and has alternated between a super-sub role and starting, averaged 13.9 points per game for the Pistons last season as they struggled to a 29-35 mark and has averaged 13.4 points per game for his career. As his arrival is welcomed by the Pacers, he'll welcome the chance to compete in the playoffs again.

The Pistons' extended run of success was nearing an end by the time Stuckey was drafted 15th overall in 2007. Detroit reached the postseason in Stuckey's first two seasons (including an Eastern Conference finals appearance in 2009), but then missed in the next five.
