Wofford hires 84-year-old veteran to coach basketball team for one night

An 84-year-old Korean War veteran will get a chance to do something he’d wanted to do since high school: Coach a basketball game.

Jack Morris was surprised by Wofford basketball coach Mike Young with an invitation to be on the team’s bench in an upcoming game. Young’s one request to Young? “I just asked Jack not upstage me during that game and (make) President Samhat want to make a coaching change.”

Morris, according to Wofford College, was a forward at Hiram (Ga.) High School and wanted to play college basketball but had to work to support his family instead.

“It’s going to be an exciting day,” Morris said. “I love the game. I lived to play basketball.”
