GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Clemson-South Carolina rivalry is one of the greatest in college football. Last week, Gamecocks coach Steve Spurrier even said he thinks some of his fans would rather beat the Tigers than win an SEC championship. That’s not his personal preference, however.

At ACC media days on Monday, Clemson coach Dabo Swinney was asked about his relationship with Spurrier. He laughed and said that the two of them are “from different planets.”

“He’s from Pluto and I’m from Mars,” Swinney joked.

Their rivalry is never vicious, but always hilarious, this being a perfect example.

“We’re different,” Swinney said. “I mean’s we’re different ages and all that stuff, the way we handle things and run our programs. But we’re similar too. Similar in our values. I have respect for him as a husband, as a father and the job he’s done is amazing … The thing I like is he is who he is and I don’t think he’s gonna change anytime soon.”

The college football world certainly hopes not.
