Watch A-Rod congratulate Jim Harbaugh after his last 49ers win

Outgoing 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh endured a day filled with awkward moments on Sunday, winning his final game on the sidelines in San Francisco just hours before the team announced his departure. And he got to share his final victory with the king of awkward moments, Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez:

A-Rod was perfectly polite in his brief meeting with Harbaugh after the game, congratulating him on the win and inviting him to come see the Yankees this year and generally interacting in the genial way we can only assume is typical among famous people who know of each other but don’t actually know each other.

The newly minted designated hitter, who sat out all of 2014 due to suspension, spent much of his fall and winter attending football games.

Maybe that’s because he’s a super bored rich guy who likes sports, or maybe — ideally, even — he’s secretly plotting an unprecedented late-career jump to the NFL. That would be: a) somehow not overwhelmingly surprising; b) a good way for A-Rod to shake his PED tarnish, since football fans hardly seem to care all that much; c) totally awesome; and d) probably an upgrade at quarterback for the Jets.
