Frontier Airlines is expanding its presence in Phoenix, adding three new destinations from the airport this fall.

Beginning Nov. 20, Frontier will begin flying from Phoenix to Houston Bush Intercontinental, Salt Lake City and San Francisco. The carrier will fly one daily round-trip route on Airbus A319 aircraft on all three routes.

Once all of Frontier's announced new routes begin, Frontier will fly nonstop from Phoenix to seven destinations. The airline already flies from Phoenix to Cleveland and Denver, and has announced plans to begin service to Chicago O'Hare and Cincinnati.

What prompted Frontier to add its three newest Phoenix routes?

"We believe the fares (on carriers currently flying those routes) are high and we can offer lower fares and make money," Frontier President Barry Bifflle tells The Arizona Republic.

The Republic notes "US Airways and Southwest Airlines, which together account for more than 80% of the passenger traffic at Sky Harbor, offer daily non-stop flights to San Francisco, Salt Lake City and Houston. United offers daily non-stops to Houston and San Francisco, and Delta offers daily non-stops to Salt Lake City."
