Livestream glitches steal some #applelive thunder on Twitter
Apple's iPhone 6 announcement today inspired a lot of reaction on Twitter, but some of the thunder was stolen by an intermittent live stream.
Instead of talking about the new phones on social media, some people expressed their frustration with being greeted by "access denied" screens when trying to follow the event remotely.
Others just got a screen with a schedule of events and multicolored bars on the background.
"This is the worst live stream ever. It's stopped, crashed and frozen. #AppleLive," tweeted @jelani9.
"So, to sum up #AppleLive for those of us streaming it: (reload)(reload) big screen (color bars)(translator) landscape mode (error)(reload)," tweeted @amnewsboy.
At one point there was a Mandarin translation playing over the event, adding to the confusion.
"It's not just simultaneous music, but simultaneous translations. Hearing chinese. #applelive," @terenceleejx tweeted.
"I've waited all summer for this and all I get is chinese overdub and intermittent video. #applelive," tweeted @davewoodson.
There was plenty of snark.
"Somehow a 14-year-old playing Call of Duty can livestream for days but Apple can't do it for an hour," tweeted @jasonschreier.
And @garywhitta wrote, "To be fair to Apple it's not like they could have predicted there would be high demand for this video stream."
Denny's restaurant chain took an opportunity to poke fun as well, tweeting out a broken streaming screen. Instead of Apple information, though, it displayed "Denny's Special Event" and a schedule that featured "bacon, plate, & tone," "sausage & music" and, of course, "breakfast."
It left many wondering what Steve Jobs, Apple's founder, would think if he were alive for the event.
"I'm rolling over in my grave. Stop embarrassing me," tweeted @LegendSteveJobs, a fan Twitter account not officially associated with Apple or Jobs.
