'World's Best Father' fixes Internet with Kim Kardashian parody
Leave it to the 'World's Best Father' to fix the Internet.
The photo of Dave Engledow, 43, and daughter Alice Bee, 3, pouring coffee is modeled after Kim Kardashian's tawdry Paper magazine nude photos with champagne.
Since it was posted on Nov. 16, the photo on his Facebook page has more than 106,000 likes and 10,492 shares.
"After the Internet was annoyingly broken last week, Alice Bee and I decided to spend our newfound free time learning some more creative ways to pour my morning coffee," he says in the photo's caption on Facebook.
The pair have created more than 140 images and at certain times "use the photos to respond to pop culture and other topical moments," he said via e-mail. It all started as a way to amuse his family.
Some examples are the parody images of Breaking Bad and Walking Dead. His book, Confessions of the World's Best Father, was published in May and is based on his photo project tracing Alice Bee's life.
"Our response was not intended to be any sort of critique of Kim Kardashian, but more of a light-hearted attempt to satirize the whole silly concept of breaking the internet," Engledow said via e-mail.
Kim Kardashian released full frontal photos last week in an effort by Paper magazine to "break the Internet."
Engledow said in a phone interview later, "The concept of creating something with the intention of "breaking the Internet" I think says a lot about where we are as a culture that people are validated by page views and clicks. There is something a bit said about it."
Kardashian has since spoken out about the photos, saying it was an "art project." "I was so honored and excited to work with (photographer
Engledow admits he doesn't know much about Kardashian. "I think she has received a lot of negative criticism. I don't know anything about her. It is not my place to critique her as a parent."
