Lions LB Stephen Tulloch injured himself celebrating

As Detroit Lions linebacker Stephen Tulloch can now attest, no NFL player ever wants to draw comparisons to Bill Gramatica.

After making a stop against the Green Bay Packers, Tulloch celebrated the act like he’d just sacked Peyton Manning to clinch the Super Bowl. But when he tried to land his two-footed, discount double-check, Tulloch tweaked something in his knee and crumpled to the turf.

Tulloch left the game with a knee injury and was questionable to return.

His gaffe brought to mind the famous celebration fail of former Arizona Cardinals kicker Bill Gramatica, who tore his ACL celebrating a game-winning field goal against the New York Giants.

Gramatica, who is out of the NFL, said he now laughs at the injury, which many people think happened on the jump. He explained in 2010.

“You guys got it wrong,” Gramatica said. “You said I got hurt jumping. My jump was excellent. It was my landing I needed to work on. It was funny. It was part of my career. I talk about it all the time. You have to laugh about it.”

We’ll see if Tulloch has the same kind of perspective.
