Comedian Rob Riggle thinks Marshawn Lynch should channel Ric Flair for his next press conference

As a Super Bowl week veteran, comedian Rob Riggle has some advice that would have probably been helpful to party-goers at the beginning of the week: “It’s a marathon not a sprint,” he said. “And hydrate. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate, especially out here in the desert.” Riggle, who will appear in this year’s big game in a commercial for T-Mobile, spoke to For The Win about his relationship with the Seahawks, his thoughts on deflategate and what exactly Marshawn Lynch should say in his next press conference. The interview, below, is condensed.

Another person who did a T-Mobile commercial for the Super Bowl this year was Kim Kardashian and in it, she takes a bunch of selfies. Did she give you any tips on taking selfies?

I did not see the Kim Kardashian T-Mobile spot, but I’m sure it was awesome. No, I didn’t get any selfie tips, but I bet I could use some selfie tips. My selfies are pretty lame. They’re always out of focus and they’re always at an angle. It’s a mess.

What are your keys for the Patriots to beat the Seahawks and then vice versa?

I think both teams are going to have to play their best game to beat each other. I mean Vegas has got the one-point spread and those guys are actuary masters so I trust it when they say that it’s a one-point spread in the game. It’s going to be a very close game. So they’re both going to have to play their best games. Everybody is going to have to best game they’ve ever played and if that’s the case, we’re going to see one of the best Super Bowls of all time.

Who are you rooting for?

I’ve got friends on both teams.

Who are your best friends on each team?

Best friend, that’s being very loose with the term. I have friends, I’ll put it that way. Coach Carroll and Seattle general manager John Schneider, I like those guys a lot, I think highly of them. I think they’re quality guys. And then Tom Brady, he’s one of the nicest guys I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. Not just as a football player, but in life.

Pete Carroll was talking about the motivational help Will Ferrell has provided for him throughout his time with the Seahawks and even when he was at USC. Have you done anything like that?

Yeah, I went up to the Seahawks training camp (in 2011), did a little comedy for the guys and even got to go out and run some drills. I didn’t put on the pads, but I put on the uniform and a helmet and went out and had my official tryout with the Seahawks. I didn’t make it surprisingly.

Sad.

Yes, so I’ve done that. I’ve also done some comedy for their Christmas Party and so yeah I’ve spent some time with the team.

What are your thoughts on deflategate?

I think it’s much ado about nothing. That’s what I think. I think there’s so many potential human errors that could have gone into that as far as atmospheric conditions, it’s just crazy. And by the way, it was a 38-point victory. I don’t know if one pound of pressure made that much of a difference.

What is your advice for Marshawn Lynch on what one line he can use in his next press conference?

You know Ric ‘Nature Boy’ Flair, one of the best All-Star wrestlers of all time, used to go ‘Woooo best thing going today baby’. I think something like that would be remarkable.
