A Florida man has been arrested after he choked his wife for consuming too much leftover fried chicken, according to local media.

WKMG-TV reported that Desmond Brownlee, 45, of Deltona, a city north of Orlando, became angry after he found that his wife, Shey Alamo, had eaten the leftovers. He then began to cook more chicken and became more agitated after she criticized his culinary technique.

The argument then escalated to the point where Brownlee pushed his wife onto a bed, struck her multiple times in the face and choked her, according to a police report posted on the Smoking Gun website.

Alamo also said the couple were in a dispute about the care of the woman's mother, according to local cable channel News 13.

After Alamo called 911, Brownlee took the phone from her and said he would not allow her to call police, the wife said, the report said.

But the altercation was overheard and when officers arrived at the home, the station reported, Brownlee was heard saying, "Shhh, what do you want, us both to go to jail?"

Brownlee told officers that his wife "went wild and started to slap at him," according to the report. Deputies said both had been consuming alcohol and found Brownlee to be the primary aggressor.

The couple have been married for four years and have a daughter, who was sleeping in another room as the incident occurred, according to the report.

Brownlee was charged Monday with felony battery and tampering with a witness and taken to Volusia County Jail. He was later released, officials said.
