John Moore reaches deal with New York Rangers

New York Rangers defenseman John Moore will have arbitration rights next season.

The New York Rangers' long summer of negotiations wrapped up on Wednesday when defenseman John Moore agreed to one-year deal.

He accepted the defending Eastern Conference champions' qualifying offer of $850,500.

Moore didn't have arbitration rights and had to get in line behind Derick Brassard, Mats Zuccarello and Chris Kreider, who filed for arbitration and signed deals in August that ate up nearly $11 million in cap space.

With the Moore signing, the Rangers have less than $500,000 in cap space, according to capgeek.com

But the Rangers will have a full team in camp, unlike last season, when Derek Stepan missed the start of camp until agreeing to a two-year deal.

Moore, who played on the third pairing, had four goals and 11 assists last season while averaging 15 minutes, 19 seconds of ice time.

He will have arbitration rights next summer when the salary cap ceiling is expected to make a jump.

Marc Staal, Martin St. Louis and Zuccarello (unrestricted) and Stepan and Carl Hagelin (restricted) will be among those up for contracts next summer.
