Martin Brodeur, formerly with the New Jersey Devils, will practice with the St. Louis Blues to likely take over for injured goalie Brian Elliott.

St. Louis Blues goalie Brian Elliott's injury could create an opening for Martin Brodeur to return to the NHL.

General manager Doug Armstrong told the Blues' website that Brodeur will practice with the team, beginning Friday and going through early next week. He will address the media on Friday.

Brodeur, 42, a future Hall of Famer, holds the NHL record for wins and shutouts, but the unrestricted free agent has been looking for a job since the summer. He and the New Jersey Devils decided to cut ties with Cory Schneider taking the No. 1 role there.

Elliott was injured on Tuesday night when his leg bent awkwardly during a scramble in the crease.

The Blues recalled goaltender Jordan Binnington under emergency conditions.
