Sam Smith's new single: 'Like I Can'

Fresh off a successful U.S. tour — and with another starting in January — British singer Sam Smith has announced his next single: Like I Can.

Look for the new single, which the British singer announced Friday on Twitter, to break in the UK first — I'm Not the Only One, Smith's follow-up to his smash Stay With Me, is still climbing the American charts, currently sitting at No. 21 on USA TODAY's Top 40 airplay chart.

Like I Can appears on Smith's debut album, In the Lonely Hour, has sold 692,000 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan. The album has sold nearly 3 million worldwide, putting him on track to become 2014's top-selling new act. His breakout single, Stay With Me, has sold 2.8 million downloads, with I'm Not the Only One having sold 281,000.

Smith is currently on tour in the U.K. but plans to return to North America in 2015 for a series of shows starting Jan. 9 at Atlanta's Fox Theatre.
