GREER, SC — It was Riverside High School's annual spring football game, the Red vs. the White.

Ross Jeffeaux donned a blue uniform, but he might as well have been wearing green, because on this night, as far as he was concerned, he was the envy of football players everywhere.

This was his night.

On May 27 at The Reservation, Jeffeaux carried the ball one time, ran 70 yards and scored the clinching touchdown. However, the play was worth way more than six points.

Jeffeaux is the team's manager. He's energetic, enthusiastic and extremely popular among the players and coaches. He's also autistic.

"Given his druthers, he would play football," said Scott Jeffeaux, Ross' father. "He loves it that much. He kind of takes after me. He loves football, and for them to do that was incredible. It meant so much to him. It meant so much to us."

Ross Jeffeaux, 19, just completed his fourth year as a student at Riverside and his third year as the football manager. He came on board when Phil Smith took over as the Warriors' coach.

"Ross has been such an inspiration to a lot of people," Smith said. "He's here every time the doors are open when it's football-related. You just can't say enough about what a big help he's been. To see the love that our guys have for Ross is really special."

It's a two-way street for Ross, who enjoys being part of the team.
