LATAM Airlines has revealed the new aircraft design that will grace the planes of merger partners LAN and TAM starting this year.

LATAM also announced that “a number of other changes” – including new employee uniforms, airport signage and a new single website – will start rolling out in May. On the companies planes, the current LAN and TAM liveries will soon give way to a new LATAM Airlines paint scheme -- a move that comes as the company moves to a unified brand for the merger carriers.

“In the coming days, aircraft with the new LATAM image will take to the skies, representing an historic milestone for the leading airline group in Latin America,” Enrique Cueto, CEO of LATAM Airlines Group, says in a statement. “It will be a gradual change with the principal objective of simplifying and improving the travel experience of our passengers.LATAM also announced that “a number of other changes” – including new employee uniforms, airport signage and a new single website – will start rolling out in May.  The current LAN and TAM liveries will soon give way to a new LATAM Airlines paint scheme, a move that comes as the company moves to a unified brands for the merged.

So long, LAN and TAM; Airlines will soon fly under LATAM brand

The first aircraft to display the new LATAM branding will be a Boeing 767, which will fly from Rio de Janeiro to Geneva on May 1 as part of a special one-off flight to collect the Olympic touch ahead of the 2016 Olympics, being hosted by Brazil. That aircraft will return to Brazil’s capital of Brasilia on May 3.

The first passenger flights with the new paint scheme will begin May 5. Three flights will operate with the new look, including a Boeing 767 flight from Sao Paulo to Santiago and Airbus A319 flights on the Santiago-Lima and Sao Paulo-Brasilia routes.

Cueto said the changes are all part of the continuation of the merger between Chile’s LAN and Brazil’s TAM airlines. Those carriers merged in 2012, but have continued to fly under their own brands. Now, those brands will begin to fade away in favor of the unified LATAM brand.

“In the coming weeks, our passengers will start to experience LATAM with the ability to book tickets via the LATAM website, accumulate kilometers using LATAM’s frequent flier program, check-in at LATAM counters, relax in LATAM VIP lounges and most significantly, fly on LATAM-branded aircraft,” Cueto says in the statement. “We will continue to optimize the most extensive route network in Latin America, the most modern fleet in the region and invest in digital solutions to offer our passengers a more personalized travel experience.”
