Dallas Cowboys defensive back C.J. Spillman is being investigated by police.

Police in Texas are investigating an allegation of sexual assault against Dallas Cowboys reserve defensive back C.J. Spillman.

The report was filed Sept. 20, according to Sgt. Robert Eberling of the Grapevine Police Department, who said no other information on the investigation or alleged incident will be released at this time.

"Any investigation involving a sexual assault does take some time," Eberling told USA TODAY Sports. "At this point, there has not been any arrests or formal charges have been filed or anything like that. But we're continuing to investigate."

The New York Daily News first reported the allegation.

The Cowboys played the Rams on Sept. 21 in St. Louis.

Spillman, 28, is in his sixth season and first with the Cowboys. He previously played for the San Diego Chargers (2009 and '10) and San Francisco 49ers (2010 to '13).

Messages left for the Dallas Cowboys and the NFL by USA TODAY Sports were not immediately returned.

Spillman's agent, Ron Slavin, declined comment Wednesday night.
